This week Feb 14-20 is a special focus on Albania, where teams are playing a part in transforming lives in this central European country. My sister, who is the minister at Forest Row Baptist Church in East Sussex (UK), will soon be heading to Tirana in Albania with Tek Ura.
Just this week Orange Sky Laundry won Young Australian of the Year Award 2016. In just 18 month’s the two friends Lucas Patchett and Nic Marchesi and a passionate band of volunteers are making a real difference for the homeless across communities in Australia.
Raising the Roof prides itself on providing long-term solutions to homelessness across multiple Canadian cities.
The Save The Child Fund charity has a history stretching back almost 100 years with a vision of A world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.
More remarkable, however, is not what they have achieved but rather how they have achieved it in just 10 years.
I have a very personal connection with the The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada. Almost 10 years ago my then 8 year old son called to say he had seen an advert on TV and thought that Daddy should adopt a little boy from Africa. He misunderstood a little. He thought the boy would come to live with me, because Daddy was on his own and needed company and the boy in the advert needed help. On behalf of my kids I have been sponsoring a boy in Ghana, who is the same age as my daughter, ever since. The boy in Ghana and I continue to exchange letters.
These resolutions are really a set of guiding principles or an opportunity to re-set your intent. I have always believed goal setting is very motivating.
While you may not care what my 2015 New Year’s resolutions were, what I learned in the process may offer some insights. Importantly, they also guide our expectations for 2016.
